Hello Charlotte Disc Golf Club (CDGC) members. This is the first of hopefully many articles I will be writing for the CDGC.
Tournament Updates
This weekend we have two great tournaments going on. Get Reedy for Fall (filled – waitlist only) @ Reedy Creek Park on Saturday and The Mule Cup Presented by Prodigy @ Eastway on Sunday – spots are still available.
Not playing? Volunteer if you are available either day. Get in touch with us at board@charlottedgc.com.
League Highlights
Sugaw AM League at Sugaw Creek Park every Thursday night thanks to Jim Banbury for running an awesome league. If you have never been to it you are missing out on arguably the best league in Charlotte. Cheney runs Friday morning dubs all over the city (check out the calendar to see where it’s next).
Lastly, if you didn’t get enough over the weekend you can join Marc Haren at Bailey Glow League every Monday NIGHT. Casey Schoonover also runs Womens league at Renske on Monday evenings.
Meeting Recap
Fifteen club members experienced a productive CDGC meeting at Sam’s Sandwiches on South Boulevard this week. We have a lot of exciting things coming for the CDGC members including ideas for a Premier Membership Package next year that would include more awesome player packs like polos and a disc with your picture on it.
We recognized the following people for helping and/or being awesome: Duffy Smith (6 yr commitment) has left the Charlotte area, Steve Lambert for winning the PDGA EDGE award, Tony Sisco for running Clash, Shoutout to all who worked on Eastway (it is looking very impressive), Stuart Salmon for spotting, Josh Tolley selling signs and getting signs back up at RL and finally Brian Hadella for working on the World’s 2018 Bid Schedule creation.
Kids Corner
Emma is 7 years old and has been disc golfing for around 6 months. She is currently a CDGC member thanks to Stan Mcdaniel. She loves going to Sugaw Creek AM League to play for her bag tag, although I really think she just likes going to get Bazooka bubble gum from Jim Banbury.
Emmas favorite disc is the one she’s holding – with a custom stamp of Elsa from the movie Frozen. She has a donut mini thanks to UnitedChains. She carrys an Innova started bag with around 5 discs in it. Her max distance is around 100ft.
Pro Tip of the Week
This one is going to be tournament related since we have 2 tournaments in Charlotte this weekend.
When your playing in the tournament this weekend don’t worry about what other people on your card are doing, just stay focused on your game and play your game not theirs.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this article and please reply with any comments on any other information you would like to see in here or any suggestions on what I can do differently to make the read more enjoyable.
